Since historical times, it has been known that Maori natives living along coastal areas of New Zealand have a far lower incidence of joint pains and arthritis compared to those living inland. This observation has now been attributed to their regular consumption of raw, fresh green-lipped mussels (Perna canaliculus), which grow only in New Zealand. Research has shown that these mussels contain a unique combination of nutrients and naturally-occurring components such as omega 3 fatty acids, glycosaminoglycans, proteins and carbohydrates.
Active Green Lipped Mussel Extract (GLME), produced from freshly harvested, live, healthy mussels using a unique cold extraction method resulted in the birth of the patented ingredient Biolane®, contained in NuvaFlexB™.
Since the product was first commercially available in 1980, many people around the world have discovered one of mother nature’s secrets to managing joint mobility problems.
The McFarlane company in NZ then developed a method to extract active GLM hence Active Green Lipped Mussel Extract (GLME). The first clinical study was done in 1980a and by the mid 1980’s, active GLME had been successfully recognized and marketed internationally. In 1999, a large pharmaceutical company called Healtheries purchased the process and branded active GLME as Biolane®.
The ingredient now so well known in over 25 countries worldwide to provide relief to joint pain.
